The Porsche 944 was in production from 1982 to 1991 and was an evolution of the earlier 924 model, retaining both its characteristic styling and design features. The car was originally fitted with a fuel injected 2479cc engine capable of delivering 163 hp. and was manufactured in accordance with the Transaxle concept (rear engine and front shifter). The 944 was produced in several versions incorporating different engines, and extensive redesigns of the interiors in the coupe and convertible configurations. In particular, the S variant, introduced in 1987, was equipped with a 16-valve engine generating 189hp and able to record speeds of 0 to 100 km / h in 7.2 seconds. In total Porsche produced 9800 of the 944 model. In 1989, Porsche introduced the 944 S Cabriolet with its renowned convertible body styling which enjoyed considerable commercial success that also extended into the very competitive US market

  • Ebbro Master Series F-1 1/20 Team Lotus Type 88 1981
    From the manufacturer:

Team Lotus pioneered te use of ground effect in the team's Type 78 and Type 79 racing cars. Type 80 followed in 1979, aiming to take even greater advantage of ground effect, only to experience severe "porpoising" or "bow bashing, " a phenomenon in which the car bounces up and down at the first bump on the road. As a solution to the problem, for 1980, Peter Wright came up with the idea of separating the monococque chassis from the downforce-creating body. Peter Wright and Martin Ogilvie thus builg the Type 86 test car on this principle, and discovered that it not only achieved tremendous downforce, but did so without showing any "porpoising." From this was born the Type 88 racing car.

Both Type 86 and 88 boast an outer sprung structure with independent springs to carry aerodynamic loads. Regulations required that any part having an aerodynamic influence had to be mounted to the entirely sprung part of the car. This in turn allowed to define the outer sprung body structure as part of the chassis, with the body structure defined as the primary chassis while the conventional inner chassis struture became the secondary chassis to create what the team called a twin-chassis construction.

For 1981, a new rule required at least 6cm of ground clearance at rest. The outer sprung primary chassis allowed to meet this new requirement at rest. Downforce at speed would then push the body down, further helping promote downforce. Tests with Type 86 showed that the traditional aluminum honeycomb structure was not strong enough to bear the increase in downforce. So for Type 88, the secondary chassis monocoque was made of nomex honeycomb sandwiched between kevlar-reinforced carbon fibre. Entirely developed by Team Lotus, it effectively became the first carbon composite monocoque in the history of Formula 1. It provided not only lighter, but stronger and safer than traditional aluminum honeycomb construction.

With good test results validating its performance, Type 88 was introduced at the 1981 Long Beach GP at the hands of Elio de Angelis. But despite having passed scrutineering, and practiced on Friday, it was forbidden to run the rest of the weekend. The story repeated itself at the Brazilian and Argentinian GPs where it was forbidden to race again and again. A further developed Type 88B was brought to the British GP, only to be forbidden to race by the FISA once again How Type 88 was not allowd to race even before it could show its potential is a sad story. But it shall be remembered as the car that introduced carbon composite monocoque construction to Formula 1, and as such an important step forward in the history of automotive engineering. In recent years, Type 88 has finally been able to prove its potential, if only in historic car events, showing to the world the fundamental rightness of the twin-chassis concept.

  • Tyrrell P34 1977 Japan GP - Fujimi 1/20
The Tyrrell P34, commonly known as the "six-wheeler", was a Formula One race car designed by Derek Gardner, Tyrrell's chief designer. The car used four specially manufactured 10-inch diameter wheels and tyres at the front, with two ordinary-sized wheels at the back. Along with the Brabham BT46B "fancar" developed in 1978, the six-wheeled Tyrrell was one of the most radical entries ever to succeed in F1 competition and has been called the most recognisable design in the history of world motorsports.

  • McLaren MP4/2C Kitset Italeri 1/12
McLaren MP4/2C. Made by Italeri, scale 1/12 plastic kitset.

The McLaren MP4/2C participated in the 1986 F1 Grand Prix. It was an advanced version of the MP4/2 that appeared in 1984, designed by John Barnard. The carbon monocoque frame is equipped with a 1.5-liter TAG Porsche V6 turbo engine developed by Porsche, and equipped with two KKK turbochargers on an 80-degree V6 cylinder with a four-valve head. It demonstrated the strongest performance among the power units of the F1 Grand Prix at the time. The machine was entrusted to two drivers, Alain Prost and Keke Rosberg, in the 1986 seasons; Alain Prost, who recorded four wins and four second-place finishes, won the drivers' championship, and in the constructors, he used a Honda engine. It came in second after Williams, who installed it.

This model kit from Italeri reproduces the McLaren MP4/2C in 1/12 scale! The body cowl is detachable even after completion; the monocoque is divided into upper and lower parts to accurately reproduce the shape of the hexagonal cross section. The engine is faithfully reproduced, as is the V-type six-cylinder to auxiliary equipment such as the turbocharger. The suspension is also modeled in detail, with delicate suspension arms, uprights and brakes. Decals and a manual in Japanese are included too. The mechanism different from the current F1 will be interesting to see at 1/12-scale, and any F1 fan will not want to miss out

By 1969 the muscle-car era was in full swing and the competition was fierce. Pontiac' entered the year with a refreshed GTO'. The tweaked styling was clean and handsome, the GTO's innovative Endura body-color front bumper was still a trend setter. The big GTO news for 1969 was a new eye-grabbing Judge model. With a name inspired by the hit TV show 'Laugh In,' the Judge was originally envisioned as a less-expensive GTO that could directly challenge the budget friendly and hugely popular Plymouth Road Runner. Once development was complete, the 'Judge' had evolved into a high-end GTO with a wild rear spoiler, unique bodyside stripes, and mod-style 'The Judge' emblems. The first 5000 Judges were painted in the model's signature Carousel Red hue, but eventually any standard GTO color could be specified. GTO production totaled 72,287 units in 1969. This included 6725 Judge hardtop coupes and a mere 108 Judge convertibles.

  • McLaren MP4/4 1988 1/12 Meng
In 1987, the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) revised its regulations in order to stop F1 machines from overheating in competition. In 1989, it was announced that they would ban the use of turbo engines, placing strict restrictions on the turbo engines that had been the mainstream until then. For this reason, while may teams adopted naturally aspirated engines in the 1988 F1 World Championship, McLaren Honda introduced the MP4/4 equipped with a turbo engine called RA168E that did not conflict with the restrictions. Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were the drivers; this highly successful vehicle won 15 out of 16 races and enabled Ayrton Senna to win his first driver's title. Order this exquisitely detailed model kit from Meng for your own collection today!
